Laura Jane Booher
Laura Jane Booher was born on 12 February 1898 in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Bower Raymond Booher and Elizabeth Clark, called Lizzie. Her brothers and sisters included Raymond Charles, John Morrison, Hope Viola, Bertha Blanche, Harrison Decker and Arthur E. Three more, Margaret Ruth, Mary O. and Earle, died as babies.
On 1 June 1917 she married Earl Gerald Hamman, a son of Elliott and Jennie Hamman. They had four children: Cora Jane, born 1917; Arthur, called Sonny, born 1918; Margaret E., born 1920; and Estall Paul, born in the summer of 1922.
Paul was less than two months old when Laura died at the hospital in Huntingdon on Friday, 29 September 1922. She was 24. One family account gives the cause as typhoid fever. Another says blood poisoning and dates her death 1 September. Earl's mother, Jennie Hamman, took the baby and raised him. When Jennie died in 1963, her obituary listed Paul among her own children.
Laura is buried in Monroe Valley Cemetery at Rockhill Furnace, in the same plot as her daughter Margaret. Her small stone says only "Mother."
