Louis Taylor George was born on 7 January 1874 in the Mount George community of Yell County, Arkansas. He spent nearly all his life in Yell County. His name is spelled Louis on his World War I draft card and in his obituary, and Lewis on his gravestone. He was the youngest of the three children of Robert Henry George, a Union cavalry veteran, and his first wife, Sara Ann Greenwood. His mother died in December 1875, before he was two, and his father married Nancy Ann Sloan about 1877. His father had eighteen more children by two later wives.

He married three times. His first wife, Lillie C. Williams, died in 1901. His second, Ellen Anderson, died in 1903, the year their daughter Eunice Frances was born. He then married Pearl Gaydon, who raised Eunice. A daughter, Mable, was born in 1905 and died in 1907, and two more children died as infants. Eunice was the only one of his children who grew up.

He became, in the words of his obituary, a "prominent planter and extensive landowner of Carden's Bottom," the farmland along the Arkansas River east of Dardanelle. His home was at Neely, eight miles southeast of Dardanelle. He was a member of the Church of Christ and of the Masonic fraternity.

In December 1946, at 72, he travelled to Waco, Texas, to visit his daughter, Mrs. E. Passmore. He died there in a hospital on Tuesday, 17 December 1946. His body was taken home to Neely, and he was buried in Mount George Cemetery. The obituary called him "an honorable, upright man and a good citizen" and said that "his death is deeply deplored by a wide circle of friends."

He was survived by his widow, Pearl Gaydon George; his daughter, Mrs. Passmore; his brothers J. F. George of Dardanelle, Jim of California, Milton of Ola, and Elmer and Bill George of Texas; and his sisters Mrs. Walter Eidson of Booneville, Mrs. B. C. McKenzie of Dardanelle, Mrs. Bettie King of Holdenville, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Sam Bishop of Port Arthur, Texas.

He and Pearl share a granite stone at Mount George Cemetery carved GEORGE, with LEWIS TAYLOR, JAN 7 1874, DEC 17 1946 on one side and PEARL GAYDON, DEC 13 1877, NOV 25 1961 on the other, and a Masonic square and compass between them. Pearl died fifteen years after him, and Eunice settled her estate.
