Lucy Elzadie Wade
Lucy Elzadie Wade was born on 14 April 1876 in Camden County, in the Ozark hills of central Missouri. She went by her middle name as well as her first: the census of 1930 calls her Elzada. Around 1894, at about eighteen, she married George Washington Crocker, a man nineteen years older than she was.
In 1900 the couple were living in Norman Township of Cleveland County, in the young Oklahoma Territory, with three children, Bernice, Samuel and Aubrey. She had been married six years. By 1910 they had moved west to Rainy Township of Washita County, with seven children in the house: Alfred, Bernice, Franklin, Lucy, Abner, Aubrey and Mary. James Allen was born that year, and her last child, Nell Ellen, called Nellie, in April 1915 at Gotebo in Kiowa County, when Lucy was thirty eight.
The family settled in the Gotebo country of Kiowa County. In 1930 Lucy and George were in Harrison Township there, with Nellie and several grown children. Nellie's daughter, born at Gotebo in 1931, was named Zada Nell, after her grandmother's Elzada and her mother's Nell.
George died in 1939. Lucy lived on at Gotebo with her grown sons and died there on 17 June 1946, at seventy. She was buried beside George in Gotebo Cemetery, under a red granite stone reading "Lucy E. Crocker, 1876, 1946."
