Lucy Smith
Lucy Smith was born at Lyme, Connecticut, about 1727. A Huntley genealogy of 1978 writes her both Luce and Lucy and gives her birth as 25 March 1729. Her headstone puts it a year or two earlier.
On 6 October 1746 she married Nathan Huntley at Lyme. Their first child, Azuba, was born in June 1747 and died at sixteen months. Six sons followed at Lyme: Rufus in 1749, Isaiah in 1752, Nathan in 1754, Lyman in 1756, Russell in 1758 and Elisha in December 1760.
In 1761 her husband sold his land at Lyme, and the family went north to Marlow, New Hampshire, with his brothers and sisters and their families. Elisha was a few months old. At Marlow her husband was one of the town's first selectmen, and they lived on Marlow Hill. At least three of her sons served in the Revolution.
Nathan died at Marlow in April 1798. Lucy died there on 25 March 1802. Her slate in the West End Cemetery, beside his, reads: "Lucy wife of Nathan Huntly died March 25 1802 in the 75th year". By that she was born between March 1727 and March 1728.
Her parents are not proved. A Huntley family history of the 1950s calls her a daughter of Quarles Smith of Lyme and Mary Tinker. The 1978 genealogy says only that she was "perhaps" Quarles Smith's daughter. No record yet found names her as his child.
