Lydia Jane Stoll
Lydia Jane Stoll was born on 2 October 1881 at Newton, the county seat of Sussex County, New Jersey. Her burial memorial names her parents as Robert Henry Stoll and Harriet Ann Snook, and her mother's parents as Peter Snook and Jane Kishpaugh.
She married Sigurd Mander Flornes, a Norwegian two years younger than she was. Their daughter Clara Delinda was born at Ironia in Randolph Township, Morris County, on 20 September 1913. Their son Walter Mander Flornes was born in 1916 and died the following year. A second son, Sigurd Mander Flornes Jr., was born at Morristown on 5 November 1920.
In September 1918 Sigurd named her as his nearest relative on his draft card, "Lydia Jane Flornes," at their home at Golden Corner on rural route 2 out of Dover. In 1920 she was 39, living in Randolph Township with Sigurd and Clara.
Sigurd died at Ironia in January 1929, leaving Lydia a widow at 47 with a daughter of 15 and a son of 8. Her burial memorial gives her last married name as Scudder, so she married again. She died on 15 March 1941 in Morris County, aged 59. She is buried in the Flornes family plot in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Randolph. A studio portrait of her as a young woman survives, her hair piled high, in a white lace collar.
