Mabel B. Miller

Mabel B. Miller was born on 13 October 1892 in Illinois, by her own Social Security record. The census ages point to about 1889, but the later date comes from her own application. She married Orville E. Barker about 1912. The couple were living at Dalton City in Moultrie County when their elder son Kenneth Orville Barker was born there, in February 1913 by his gravestone. A second son, Russell, followed about 1916. Her parents are not known.

She was Orville's wife and the mother of Kenneth and Russell, in the household with the children in every census. She is written Minnie in 1920 at Dora Township, Mabel B. in 1930 and 1940 at Nokomis in Montgomery County, and Mable on her husband's 1941 death certificate. In 1930 three Bakers, Claud, Minna and Deloris, were living in the same house, and whether they were her people or boarders is not settled. A family tree calls her Marie Miller, a name no record uses, and Miller as her maiden name rests on that tree alone.

After Orville died in October 1941 she married a Minor. Her son Kenneth died at Omaha on his birthday in February 1968, and his obituary lists his mother as Mrs. Mable Minor. She died in March 1974 as Mabel B. Minor, aged eighty two, last living at Decatur in Macon County, more than thirty two years after Orville. Two notices of her death ran in Decatur on 2 and 3 March 1974, the second an obituary in the Decatur Daily Review.
