Russell Dale Barker
Born July 22, 1916 in Illinois, youngest of the four children in his father's 1920 Dora Township household. He grew up at Nokomis, married Dorothy E. Ruppert, and the 1940 census finds the young family there with their first daughter Patricia. Seven children lived to be named in his obituary: Patricia Ann, Orville, Harold, Dale, Linda, Cheryl Lynn, and Judith. He died February 9, 1979 and was buried at Nokomis Cemetery with three generations of his family.
His obituary in the Decatur Herald and Review gives his birthplace as Dalton City, in Moultrie County, and his trade as auto mechanic, retired by 1979. He was living at North Aurora by then and died at Pana at eight in the morning, aged sixty-two. The funeral was held at the Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. The notice counts thirty-two grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and says that a daughter, a brother and a sister had died before him. Those were almost certainly the baby Carlyn Sue, his brother Kenneth and his sister Zelpha.
