Magdalena Deines was born on 2 August 1829 at Kratzke on the Volga, a Lutheran colony whose Deines families traced back to Georg Deines of Lindenstruth in Hesse, who had settled in the neighbouring colony of Donhof in June 1767. In 1848, at nineteen, she married Georg Peter Boxberger at Kratzke. She bore twelve children there and buried four of them: Georg Jacob first, dead at four in 1853. Johann Georg, Anna, Johann Jakob, Lena, Peter, Mary, Heinrich and a second Georg Jacob lived.

In 1878 she crossed with her husband and children to Russell County, Kansas, and the family farmed in Lincoln Township down near the Russian settlement at Milberger. She was taken with dysentery in July 1904. Dr. Koerber visited her on the Sunday and relieved her, the Russell Record wrote, "but she seemed to have no desire to live and declared that she would rather die and go to the Lord. She was very weak and could take no nourishment." She died on the Tuesday morning, 12 July 1904, aged 74, and the funeral was on the Wednesday at the old church. She is buried in Milberger Cemetery; her husband's monument names her, Magdalena his wife, and he joined her in 1913.
