Margaret Boughan
Margaret Ryan was born in Ireland about 1829, the daughter of Andrew Ryan and Mary Cavanaugh. She married Francis Boughan, about ten years older, and her first two children, Anna and Patrick, were born in Ireland about 1851 and 1853.
The family emigrated in the mid 1850s. Bridget was born in Maryland about 1856, and from about 1859 the children were born at Providence, Rhode Island: Margaret, Rosa, Francis Henry in November 1865, Mary J. and Catherine. In 1870 Margaret, 45, was keeping house in the first ward of Providence for her husband and nine children.
The family moved on to Newton, Massachusetts. Her son Francis became a house painter there and gave her name as Margaret Ryan when he married in 1891.
She was widowed in 1895 and died at Newton Centre on 27 February 1898, aged about 69. Her death record names her parents and was written under the spelling Bogan. She was buried at Waltham, on the family stone at Calvary Cemetery: "1829 MARGARET HIS WIFE 1898".
