Margaret Dailey
Margaret Dailey was born about 1851 in Ohio to parents who were both born in Ireland. She married George M. Patterson, a Marine veteran turned house painter, on 22 May 1871 in Summit County, and the 1880 census finds the family at Cuyahoga Falls with four children under ten.
Her name is well attested even though her life is not. Three records of her children name her as the mother, and all three give her born in Ohio: the birth registration of her youngest daughter Margaret Ellen at Cuyahoga Falls in 1879, the 1899 marriage licence of her son George Edward in Summit County, and the 1916 death certificate of her daughter Fanny at Dayton.
That last one moves the family. Fanny died at Dayton in Montgomery County on 2 September 1916, and George died at the national soldiers' home in the same city on 6 May 1917, so the household had left Cuyahoga Falls for Dayton at some point in the thirty-odd years after the 1880 census. Margaret's own death is recorded in neither county and her parents are not known.
