George Edward Patterson

George Edward Patterson was a printer. He was born on 19 September 1875, the second of the four children of George M. Patterson, a Marine veteran turned house painter, and Margaret Dailey, and he grew up at Cuyahoga Falls. His death certificate gives his birthplace as Cincinnati, and his marriage licence as Cuyahoga Falls. He married Maude Belle Strong in Summit County in 1899.

He moved for work, and the birthplaces of his seven children track the moves: Ohio in 1901 and 1903, Minnesota by 1905, Ohio again by 1907, then Missouri from 1908. By 1910 the family was in the fifth ward of St. Joseph, and there they stayed.

He registered for the draft at St. Joseph during the First World War, entered there as George Edgar Patterson and giving the same birth date of 19 September 1875. He died at home, 2612 Patee Street, at half past seven on the morning of 9 August 1920, of tuberculosis of the lungs, aged forty four. He was buried at Mt. Mora Cemetery two days later, leaving a son Benjamin who was four.
