Margaret Lom

b. 1627 · Sweden
Born 1627, Sweden
Father: Måns Svensson Lom
Children include Anneka

Margaret Lom was the eldest daughter of Måns Svensson Lom, a tailor who had also been a lieutenant. In 1641 the family sailed for New Sweden, the Swedish colony on the Delaware River, on its fourth expedition. The roll of the voyage lists her father going "with his wife, two almost grown up daughters and a little son." Margaret was one of those two daughters, so she was born about 1627.

The family settled first at Techoherassi, between Crum Creek and what became Ridley Creek, alongside the brothers Olof and Axel Stille. Her father was dead by about 1654. That year her mother married Lars Andersson Collinus, who had just come from Sweden as a minister's scribe. Collinus "took meticulous care of her nine children." There were seven daughters, among them Anna, who married Gustaf Danielsson, and Maria, the youngest. The sons included Peter Månsson and Sven Månsson Lom.

Margaret married Peter Larsson Cock, who had come out on the same voyage as an imprisoned soldier sent for punishment. Their eldest son, Lasse, was born on 21 March 1646, when she was about nineteen. Eleven more children followed over twenty-three years, the last, Catharina, in 1669. In 1671 eleven of them were still at home on the island in the Delaware that Peter called Kipha.

Her husband became presiding justice of the court at Upland. Her daughter Anna married Gunnar Rambo, and another daughter, Brigitta, married his brother John. Peter Cock died on Kipha on 10 November 1687. Margaret survived him. When she died is not known.
