Anneka Cock
Anneka Cock, also called Anna, was born about 1652 in New Sweden, a daughter of Peter Larsson Cock and his wife Margaret, the eldest daughter of Måns Svensson Lom. Her father had come to the colony in 1641 as an imprisoned soldier sent out for punishment. Her mother had come on the same voyage as a girl. Her father became a freeman, a magistrate under the Dutch and the English, and presiding justice of the court at Upland. He also served as an interpreter for William Penn.
She grew up in a house of twelve children, six sons and six daughters. In 1671 eleven of them were still at home on the island in the Delaware that her father called Kipha, later Province Island. Her eldest brother, Lasse, born in 1646, had married Martha Ashman in 1669 and had a house of his own.
She married Gunnar Rambo, the eldest son of Peter Gunnarsson Rambo, who sat with her father as a justice at Upland. The marriage is usually dated 1670. In 1671, though, both Gunnar and Anna were still living in their parents' houses, so they probably married a year or two later. Her younger sister Brigitta married Gunnar's brother John.
Anneka and Gunnar lived for twenty years at Shackamaxon, now Kensington in Philadelphia, until Gunnar sold the land in 1697. Her father died on Kipha on 10 November 1687. Her brother Lasse witnessed her father-in-law's will in 1694. Her son Peter Rambo, born about 1678, settled at Providence on the Perkiomen. Gunnar died in 1724.
