Margaret Paddy
Margaret Paddy was the wife of Gregory Baxter, who came to Massachusetts with the Winthrop Fleet in 1630. She was a sister of William Paddy of Plymouth and Boston. His will of 20 August 1658 gives fifty shillings "to his sister, Margaret Baxter".
Her daughter Abigail was born at Roxbury in September 1634. The family moved to Braintree about 1640. Her daughter Bethia married Samuel Dearing in 1647, and Abigail married Joseph Adams in 1650. Her son John became a lieutenant and the town's representative.
Gregory made his will on 2 June 1659. He left her and their son John "All ye rest of my Estate", "my wife to haue all ye vse of it while she Liueth". After her death it was all to be John's. Two cows were to be hers outright, "to dispose of as she pleaseth at her death". A codicil of 19 June gave her and John the piece of salt marsh he had first left to their son-in-law Samuel Dearing, "for them to vse together, while she liueth". Gregory died two days later, on 21 June 1659. He had named her and John as his executors.
On 14 July 1659 she and John swore to the inventory, as "Margaret Baxter, relict of Gregory Baxter & John, theire sonne". A relict was a widow. She died on 13 February 1661/2.
