Margaret W. Morrison was born on 11 July 1875 in Iowa. Her parents were John and Annie Morrison, and by 1894 they were living at Palatine, on the east bank at Fairmont in Marion County, West Virginia. How the family came there from Iowa is not known. Her marriage licence gives her birth county in four letters that cannot be read with confidence.

She married Guy F. Leonard at Marion County on 12 August 1894. She was nineteen and could not take out a licence alone, and the county clerk wrote her parents' written consent across the top of the page. The licence is dated 11 August. C. L. Queen, pastor of the M. P. Church, married them the next day at her parents' house at Palatine. Guy was twenty six, born at Fairmont, a son of John A. Leonard and Anna Helmick. He was a merchant.

She appears in the 1900 and 1910 censuses as Margaret W. Leonard, and both give her birthplace as Iowa. The family moved with Guy's work. In 1900 they were in McDowell County in the southern coalfield, and in 1910 at Springfield in Hampshire County, in the eastern panhandle. Her son Chauncey was born on 22 December 1904, the fifth of six children.

She died on 18 February 1913 in Marion County, aged thirty seven. She is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fairmont, the one owned by Fairmont Lodge number 2 of the Odd Fellows. An Anna Morrison, taken to be her mother, died at Fairmont the next year, on 14 June 1914.

Her husband died at Fairmont on 18 July 1918, five years and five months after her, and his certificate returns him as a widower. He was buried at Maple Grove too. Chauncey lost his mother at eight and his father at thirteen.
