Maria Giuseppa Colucci
Maria Giuseppa Colucci was born in Italy about 1862. Her son's Boston birth record of 1890 calls her Maria, wife of Felice Cresta. A family account gives her full name and names her parents as Nicola Colucci and Teresa Moccia, and places her birth in the province of Avellino, inland from Naples.
The same account says she and Felice came to Boston about 1887, leaving older children in Italy, and that one of them, Angelo Michael, born about 1882, later joined them. It also says that Maria was Jewish and that this was a reason the couple left, since Felice's family disowned them both for the marriage. No record of the time is known to bear this out.
In Boston she had four more children. Luigi, later Louis Michael, was born on 24 January 1890. Nicolino, later Nicholas George, named for her father, followed in 1893, then Maria, and Teresa, named for her mother, in 1895.
Maria died at Boston on 27 September 1897, about 35 years old, of heart disease. Her youngest child was two. She is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery. Within two years Felice was dead too, and her children were placed in an orphanage.
