Mary Coe
Mary Coe was born at Newark, New Jersey, on 10 November 1726. She was the eldest child of Benjamin Coe, a farmer and tailor, and his wife Abigail. Her brothers and sisters were Sarah, Daniel, Eunice, Benjamin and Abigail. The family lived on six acres on the south side of Court Street, between High and Washington Streets, which her father had bought in 1723.
She married Moses Roberts of Newark. Their daughter Sarah married Moses Gardner.
Her mother died in December 1761. Her father married twice more, to Mary Young, a widow, in 1766 and then to Rachel. In November 1776 British troops raided Newark and looted and burned her father's house. He moved to Hanover and came back after the war.
Her father's will of 30 April 1783 left lands to "his four daughters, Mary Roberts, Sarah Tuttle, Vinie Baldwin, and Abigail Tichenor," and made their husbands executors. Moses died the next year. Her father died in December 1788, and Mary died on 13 December 1791.
