Mary Marvin was baptised at St. Mary's church, Great Bentley, in Essex, on 16 December 1628. The parish register reads: "Marie Meruin the daughter of Mathew Meruen and of Elisabeth his wyfe baptised 16 Dec. 1628." She was the third child of Matthew and Elizabeth Marvin. Her sister Elizabeth had been baptised in 1622 and her brother Matthew in 1626. Sarah followed in 1631 and Hannah about 1634. Abigail and Rebecca were born later at Hartford.

In April 1635 the family sailed from London on the Increase, Robert Lea master. Mary is on the passenger list as "Marie Marvyn, 6." Her father became one of the first settlers of Hartford. Her mother died there about 1640, and about 1647 her father married Alice, the widow of John Bouton.

On 11 October 1648, at Hartford, she married Richard Bushnell. He had been baptised at Horsham in Sussex in 1623 and had come to New England with his brothers. In 1650 her father moved to Norwalk as one of its first settlers, and the Bushnells followed. Their children were Joseph in May 1651, Richard in September 1652, Mary in January 1654 and Marcie in March 1657. Richard made his will at Norwalk on 1 December 1659 and was dead by July 1660. Mary was about thirty one, with four children between two and eight.

She married again by March 1661/2. Her second husband was Thomas Adgate of Saybrook, a deacon, who took her as his second wife. The family moved to Norwich, where Adgate was among the founders. His name stands on the founders' monument there. Her children by him included Abigail in 1661 and Sarah in 1663. Her son Richard later married Adgate's daughter Elizabeth, his stepsister. The Norwich clerk entered her Bushnell children as "the Children of Richard Bushnell Deceased who stand in relation vnto the second wife of Thomas Adgate as their mother."

Her father made his will at Norwalk on 26 December 1678. He named her first of his four daughters, as "Mary Adgate of Norwich," and left ten pounds to her son Richard Bushnell. She lived another thirty four years. She died at Norwich on 29 March 1713, by the Marvin genealogy. The Bushnell genealogy prints 29 May and says she and Thomas Adgate were buried in the Old Burying Ground at Norwichtown.
