Mary Melissa Nulph
Mary Melissa Nulph was born on 8 July 1858, a daughter of John Nulph and Mary Ann Blakely of the Scotch Hill district of Clarion County. On 22 February 1874, aged fifteen, she married George Benjamin Haight, a Civil War veteran and river raftsman of 28 who had buried his first wife two years before and had a small daughter. Between 1875 and 1890 she bore him seven children: John Westley, Anna Esther, James Franklin, Eliza Jane, William George, Joseph Curtis and Harry Albert. The census of 1880 found her at Mill Creek Township, Clarion County, aged twenty by the enumerator's count, with her husband, her stepdaughter, two children of her own and her mother-in-law Eliza Platt Haight in the house.
George died in February 1898 and she drew a widow's pension on his service. Her mother died in 1910. Mary died on 1 April 1906 at Jenks, Forest County, aged 47; her death certificate names her parents as John Nulph and Marian Blakely. She is buried beside George in Daniels Cemetery at Port Barnett.
