Mary Newell
Mary Newell was a daughter of Thomas Newell of Farmington, Connecticut, and his wife Rebecca Olmstead. Her mother had come over in 1632 as a girl in the household of her uncle James Olmstead. Mary was born about 1645.
In March 1667, at about twenty two, she married Thomas Bascom the younger of Northampton, Massachusetts. Savage gives the date as 20 March 1667. In the third month of 1670 she and her husband were admitted to full communion in the Northampton church. They had at least nine children, the youngest son being John, born on 14 October 1672.
Her husband died at Northampton on 11 September 1689, and as his widow she settled his estate. That same year her father's estate was divided at Farmington among his nine children. The division names her as "Mary, w. of Thomas Bascom of Northampton," aged forty four.
One history of Southampton calls her Mary Baldwin and says she died on 3 February 1676. The Farmington division shows her living in 1689, and so does her husband's estate.
