Thomas Newell
Thomas Newell was at Farmington, Connecticut, by 1652. He married Rebecca Olmstead, who had come over as a girl in 1632 in the household of her uncle James Olmstead.
His estate was divided in 1689 among nine children, and the division gives each of their ages. Rebecca, wife of a Woodford, was forty six. Mary, wife of Thomas Bascom of Northampton, was forty four. John was forty two and Thomas thirty nine. Esther, wife of a Stanley, was thirty seven. Sarah, wife of a Smith, was thirty four; she had been baptised on 18 February 1655. Hannah, wife of a North, was thirty one; she had been baptised on 11 April 1658. Samuel was baptised on 5 December 1660, and Joseph on 20 April 1664. Joseph died before November 1689.
A division was the court's distribution of a dead man's land and goods among his heirs. This one fixes the births of his older children, all born before any Farmington baptisms survive.
