Mary T. Laviero
Mary Laviero was born in Connecticut on 10 March 1910. Her parents are not proved. The Laviero name is rare and Italian, and its families in Hartford County lived at Bristol. One of them fits her closely. Joseph Laviero, an Italian who came to America in the later 1890s, and his wife Rose had a daughter Mary who was a newborn at the April 1910 census in Bristol. That family lived in Hartford in 1920 and was back in Bristol in 1930, when Mary was twenty and single. Joseph died in 1947 and Rose in 1968, and both are buried at St. Thomas Cemetery in Bristol. Nothing yet names Mary Grossi as their daughter.
By 1934 she was the wife of Alphonse Emilio Grossi of Hartford, two years her junior. Their son Louis was born on 26 December 1934 and their daughter Diane about 1939. In April 1940 the family was living in Ward 12 of Hartford, in the house they had occupied since at least 1935, with her father-in-law Luigi Grossi and her sister-in-law Mary. When her husband registered for the draft that October he named her, Mary T. Grossi, as his next of kin. Two more daughters, Mary Ann and Beatrice, came later.
She died at Hartford on 13 January 1955, aged 44, with her home at Bloomfield. She was buried at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield under a flat granite marker reading "Mother, Mary Grossi, Mar. 10, 1910, Jan. 13, 1955." Her father-in-law lies beside her under a matching marker reading "Father." Her son Louis was twenty when she died.
