Marybelle Williams
Marybelle Williams was born on 6 October 1910 at Thomas, in Custer County, western Oklahoma. She was the youngest child of Noah Dean Williams and Mary Evelyn Gould, who were farming in Deer Creek Township, near Thomas, that spring. Her father had grown up in Harper County, Kansas. Her older brothers and sisters were Georgia, Fred, Sidney, Ned, Noah James, Katherine and Edith. In 1920 the family was in Ochiltree County, in the Texas Panhandle, and Mary B. was nine. By the late 1920s her parents had settled at Watonga, in Blaine County.
She married Jamie A. Peck of Watonga at Christmas 1927, when she was seventeen. Their stone gives the date as 25 December 1927. Three sons followed: Jamie Eugene, called Jim, in November 1929 and Lee Warren in April 1932, both at Watonga, and Lawrence in January 1936 at Guthrie, where the family was living by then. When Jamie registered for the draft at Guthrie in 1940, he named her as the person who would always know where to find him.
In 1945 the family moved to a ranch near Ochelata, in Washington County. Her sons went to school at nearby Ramona. Jamie died in 1974. Marybelle stayed on at Ochelata for another twenty-five years. Her memorial remembers her as Brownie's Granny. She died at Ochelata on 29 August 1999, aged 88, and is buried beside Jamie in the Ochelata Cemetery. Her son Jim had died the year before.
