Milton Jasper Bryant Sr

Milton Jasper Bryant was born on 22 July 1900 in Gage County, Nebraska, a son of Henry Spencer Bryant and Belle Almira Perkins. His parents were counted in Island Grove Township, Gage County, on 1 June 1900, seven weeks before he was born. They moved the family to Norton County, Kansas, when he was two or three, and the census of 1910 found him there at nine.

He married Lena Margaret Bennett, a daughter of Edward Lee Bennett of Norton. Their children were born in a different state almost every time. Milton Jr. was born in Louisiana about 1921, at DeRidder. Eleanor was born in Washington State on 7 December 1921. Joyce was born in Kansas about 1925, and Barbara in Texas, at Amarillo, about 1927.

In October 1929 he was a pallbearer at the funeral of his grandmother, Emma Perkins, in Boulder, Colorado, with his younger brother Elmer. By April 1930 the family was living in Denver. The census taker entered him as a salesman of used automobiles, in a house rented for fifteen dollars a month. Their youngest, Donna Jean, was born in Denver about 1932.

The family was still in Denver in 1935. Their son Milton Jr. died there in 1938, at seventeen. By April 1940 they had left Colorado for Ward 7 of Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, the parish where their son had been born. Milton was thirty-nine and a salesman for a furniture company. Lena kept house, and Eleanor, Joyce, Barbara and Donna Jean were at home.

In April 1950 he and Lena were living in Harris County, Texas, in the same census district as their daughter Eleanor and her husband Benjamin Patterson. Lena was working as a marker in a laundry. He died at DeRidder, Louisiana, in 1959.
