Mina Vay Fetterman
Mina Vay Fetterman was born in Canoe Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, on 7 June 1898. She was the youngest of the ten surviving children of Alexander T. Fetterman and Louisa Neal. Her older brothers and sisters were Laura, William John, Jacob Irvin, Serena Etta, James Reese, Mary Amanda, Harriet Maude, Leroy Miles and Cora Ada.
She was fifteen when her mother died of tuberculosis in April 1914 at the family home near Canoe Ridge. The obituaries listed her as one of the three children still at home, "Miney" in one paper and "Minna" in the other. Her father died the next year.
She married Curt E. Bartlebaugh of Lockvale, a First World War veteran and coal miner. Their daughter Alice was born and died in 1918. Theodore followed in 1920 and Gladys Ione in 1922. From 1929 the family lived at Commodore, and Mina belonged to the Hillsdale Wesleyan Methodist Church.
She died on Tuesday, 13 August 1963, aged 65. The Indiana Evening Gazette wrote that she was "the last surviving member of her family." Her survivors were her husband, her son Theodore R. Bartlebaugh of Clymer, her daughter Mrs. John (Gladys) Slanczka of Elyria, Ohio, and six grandchildren. The Rev. John Dye conducted the funeral at the H. D. Rairigh Funeral Home in Hillsdale, and she was buried in the East Mahoning Cemetery. She and Curt share one gray granite stone carved MY LORD AND MY GOD, BARTLEBAUGH, CURT E. 1897 1974, MINA VAY 1898 1963.
