Minnie Etta Withers
Minnie Etta Withers was born on 7 January 1882 at Moline, in Elk County, Kansas. Her family moved south to Ingalls, in Payne County, Oklahoma Territory. Her parents were Willard G. Withers and Polly G. Booth, named in her own Social Security record. Her father died at Ingalls in 1899, the year she married, and her sister May died the next year at fourteen. Both are buried in the Ingalls Cemetery.
In 1899 Minnie married James William Focht, an Iowa-born farmer. The census of 1900 found them in Clayton Township with their first child, William. Many more followed: Elva, Charles, Madge, Viola, Orval, Albert, Addie, Martha and Velma Pearl. The family moved to Glencoe when Viola was small, and in 1920 seven children were still at home.
Minnie and James spent the rest of their lives around Glencoe, in Rose Township, where the censuses of 1940 and 1950 found them. James died in 1956. Minnie died in 1965 and was buried beside him in the Glencoe Cemetery.
