Born 1912, Ingalls, Payne County, Oklahoma
Died 2001
Father: James William Focht
Mother: Minnie Etta Withers

Viola Rose Focht was born at Ingalls, in Payne County, Oklahoma, on 27 January 1912. Her parents were James William Focht, an Iowa-born farmer, and Minnie Etta Withers, who had been born in Kansas and raised at Ingalls. Viola was one of a large family. Her parents had married in 1899, and by 1920 the household in Payne County held Madge, Viola, Addie, Martha, Charles, Orval and Albert. Her older sister Elva and her younger sister Velma Pearl were also among them.

The Fochts moved to Glencoe, a few miles north, when she was very small, and she graduated from the Glencoe schools. On 21 December 1928, a month short of seventeen, she married Ernest F. Langley at Perry. The young couple lived near Glencoe at first, close to her parents in Rose Township, and Ernest went to work for an oil field company as a driller. Their son Walter James was born in 1930, then Thelma, Elvina and Velta.

The oil work moved them about. In 1940 they were in Pawnee County, and by 1950 they had settled at Stillwater, where they stayed. Viola kept the house. Her obituary says she "enjoyed quilting, working in her garden and taking care of her home. She loved her children and grandchildren. She was a Baptist and a homemaker."

Ernest died in October 1996. Viola died at her home in Stillwater on Tuesday 22 May 2001, aged 89, and was buried beside him in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Three brothers, four sisters and one grandchild had died before her. She left her son James and his wife Clara of Ponca City, her daughters Thelma Madison of Ingalls, Elvina Cox of Jones and Velta Benson of Broken Arrow, her sister Pearl Creager of Glencoe, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Her grandsons were her pallbearers.
