Miranda Fuller
Miranda Cagle was born on 25 January 1905 in Tennessee. Her parents were George Cagle, a farmer born at Newport, Tennessee, in 1870, and Mary Alice McGaha. She carried the name of her father's mother, Merinda Ball Cagle.
She grew up on both sides of the mountain line between Tennessee and North Carolina. In 1910, when she was five, the family was living in Fines Creek township, in the mountains of northwest Haywood County, North Carolina. Her brothers and sisters at home were Nancy, Jackson, Algia, Willie, Lidia J. and Allen. In 1920 the family was back in Cocke County, Tennessee, and Marandy, as the census taker wrote her, was 14. Homer and Flint had been born by then, and Ray came later.
About 1921 she married Charles Wright Fuller, a South Carolina farmer born in 1878, twenty six years older than she was. They went to Gastonia, the cotton mill city of Gaston County, North Carolina. Their first child, Lenora, was born there on 6 July 1922. On the birth certificate Miranda's age was given as 20 and Charles's as 34. She was seventeen, and he was 43.
The family settled in the country near Roebuck, south of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Miranda and Charles had at least eleven children: Lenora, Bert Earl, Sudie Mae, Merlin Sweetwater, Gale Earle, Dorothy Elizabeth, Newey Leonard, Roy, Eugene, Kenneth Floyd and Rosa Lee. The youngest, Rosa Lee, was born in 1944.
In April 1950 Miranda was living with Charles in the Walnut Grove district of Spartanburg County, with six children still at home: Merlin, Leonard, Roy, Eugene, Kenneth and Rosa Lee.
Charles died in 1952, and Miranda lived on as a widow for 28 years. When her father died at Fines Creek on New Year's Day 1958, his obituary listed her among his daughters as Mrs. Charlie Fuller of Roebuck, S. C. She died on 27 September 1980, aged 75. She is buried beside Charles in Sunset Memorial Park at Spartanburg, under a shared stone.
