Moses Langston was born about 1780, probably in Georgia. By 1811 he had married Lovey H. Adams, a daughter of Isaac Adams of Hancock County, Georgia. Isaac's will of December 1811 names her as "Lovey H. Langston." Their daughter Rebecca Ann was born in Hancock County on 21 March 1812.

Some time after that the family moved west to Morgan County, newer cotton land on the Apalachee and Oconee rivers. There, on 10 December 1820, Moses made his will. He was "feeble and weak in body," and he expected his debts to be paid out of the cash on hand and the crop still in the field. He asked that his property be kept together, not divided, until the youngest child came of age. He wanted his mother, Mary Langston, "plentifully and comfortably supported" out of it. He named his wife Lovey and his friend Thomas Watts Jr. as executors. The will was recorded in Morgan County's Will Book B.

He did not live long after. By 1823 Lovey was settling his estate as executrix, and the account she returned to the court that year records cash received from the sale of an enslaved man named Isham. In 1824 the guardian of the orphans of Berry Watts sued her and Thomas Watts on a note for 153 dollars and 25 cents that Moses had signed on 5 January 1820. A family account says Lovey was only 35 when he died and never married again.

The estate was still not settled eighteen years later. By 1832 it was reckoned in seven shares, and one share, "the seventh part of said Estate," was mortgaged that year by Redding Stocks. The family had moved on to Troup County, on the Alabama line. There, in January 1839, a legatee, James R. Langston, petitioned the court of ordinary. He charged that Lovey H. Langston, executrix, was mismanaging the estate "to the injury of the Legatees," and the court ordered her to answer.

The family account names his children as Rebecca Ann, who married Thomas Roderick Wright; Harriet, who married a Stocks; James; and a son Moses, with whom Lovey lived in Ouachita County, Arkansas, in her old age. His memorial adds a son, Moses Green Winfield Langston, born in 1821, perhaps after his father's death.
