Nancy Eliza Wilhelm
Nancy Eliza Wilhelm was born on 9 July 1844 in Johnson County, Illinois. Her grave memorial names her parents as Peter Wilhelm and Susannah Baker.
On 27 February 1864, at nineteen, she married Josiah Patterson Gore, a soldier of the 9th Illinois Infantry who had re-enlisted as a veteran at Athens, Alabama, that January and was home on furlough. He went back to the war and came home for good in July 1865.
She bore ten children over twenty-three years: Elizabeth, called Lizzie, in 1864, Barnett Franklin in 1866, Liddie, Gideon, Otto, Joseph Patterson, Casander Catherine, Peter Wilhelm, Julia Margaret and Rosella, born in 1887. When Barnett married Rosa Ragsdale in 1885, the marriage record named his mother's family as Wilhelm. Two of her sons died young, Gideon at eighteen in 1889 and Otto at twenty in 1894, and Josiah died in July 1895.
Nancy Eliza Gore died in Johnson County on 1 May 1900, aged fifty-five. Her daughter Lizzie and her son Barney both died the same year. All three are buried in Mount Pisgah Cemetery.
