Barnett Franklin Gore
Barnett Franklin Gore, called Barney, was born on 9 May 1866 in Johnson County, Illinois. He was the oldest son of Josiah Patterson Gore, a Civil War veteran of the 9th Illinois Infantry, and Nancy Eliza Wilhelm. He married Rosa Lucretia Ragsdale, who was about four years younger, and they lived in Johnson County, in southern Illinois. Their children were Samuel Joseph William, born in 1886, John Jacob, Elvina, Augusta Mae, Tethel Elizabeth, born on 3 January 1896, and Matilda Jane.
Barney Gore died in 1900, at about thirty-four, leaving Rosa with six children, the youngest about two. That year's census found Rosa heading the household in Cache Township. Rosa later married an Adams and outlived him by half a century. Their names are cut together on one stone: "Barnett F. 1866-1900" and "Rosa Adams 1870-1951."
In 1912 his daughter Tethel married Otis Z. Canupp at Cypress, and the marriage record names her father as Barnett Gore.
On 16 August 1885, in Johnson County, Barney married Rosa L. Ragsdale. He was nineteen and she was fifteen. The marriage record names his father as J. P. Gore and his mother's family as Wilhelm.
The year 1900 took three of the family. Barney's mother Nancy Eliza died on 1 May 1900, his older sister Lizzie Shepard died that year, and so did Barney himself, at thirty-four. All three are buried in Mount Pisgah Cemetery.
