Nancy Emiline Tweedle
Nancy Emiline Tweedle was born on 12 December 1831 in Hardin County, Kentucky, a daughter of Matthew Tweedell, a Virginian, and Sarah Brown, a Kentuckian. In 1836 her parents moved to Schuyler County, Illinois, and she grew up there. She married John Smith Elmore in Schuyler County in 1850, on 17 February by her own obituary's account, and in the autumn of 1855 they moved to Adair County, Missouri, where she lived the remaining 56 years of her life on the farm at Gibbs.
She bore eleven children, seven girls and four boys. Three died in infancy, Thomas Oregon in June 1886 and Victoria Hood in September 1909. On 1 June 1886 she confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized by Elder J. W. Davis, and took membership with the La Plata church. Her husband died in December 1888.
She died at five in the afternoon on 26 May 1911, aged 79 years, 5 months and 14 days, the figure cut on her stone. Her death certificate gives the cause as Bright's disease, from which she had suffered for fourteen years. Her son John A. Elmore gave the particulars, among them her parents' names, Mathew Tweedell and Sarah Brown. The La Plata Home Press named the children who survived her: Delphina Combs of Dexter, Kansas, Ollie G. Daugherty, Sabina Workman, Sylvianna Winn, and Emry and John A. Elmore. She is buried beside John in the Elmore Family Cemetery.
