Nathaniel Hayward
Nathaniel Hayward and his wife Elizabeth put eight children to the font at the Beverly church between 1669 and 1684. Nathaniel came first in May 1669, then Nehemiah in July 1670, Sarah in November 1671, Jonathan in 1673, Nicholas in 1675, Samuel in 1678, Hannah in 1680 and Stephen in 1684.
He moved to Salem, and by the middle 1710s his sons were dealing in land there under their own names. He left a will. It does not survive in any known printed abstract, but two of his sons quote it. In a division recorded in the Essex deeds, Nehemiah Hayward of Salem and Samuel Hayward of Reading in Middlesex describe themselves as "being Sons to Nath[anie]l Hayward Our hon[oure]d Father Late of S[ai]d Salem Deceas[ed]," and say they have good right "in and by our s[ai]d Father[s] Last Will and Testament" to a quarter part of a farm in the north precinct of Reading, the north part of what had been Captain Flint's.
His estate reached into two counties: he died at Salem, in Essex, and the farm lay at Reading, in Middlesex.
