Nathaniel Towne
Nathaniel Towne was born at Topsfield on 1 June 1700, the fifth son of Joseph Towne and Amy Smith, and the great grandson of William Towne, who had brought the name over from Great Yarmouth. His father's aunts were Rebecca Nurse and Mary Esty, hanged at Salem eight years before he was born, and Sarah Cloyce, who was accused and lived. He grew up in a town where that was recent.
He married Jemima Perkins at Topsfield on 27 August 1723. There were several Nathaniel Townes in the town at once, which is why the record identifies this household by the pair of them rather than by him alone.
Their six children are entered together on one page of the Topsfield book, under the heading Nathl Town and Jemima Town his wife. Jemima was born on 20 May 1724, nine months after the wedding, and married William Gallop in 1781 at fifty seven. Nathaniel followed on 16 September 1725 and was dead at Cape Breton in 1745, at nineteen, on the expedition Massachusetts raised against Louisbourg. Eunice came in 1727 and married Edward Thomas in March 1745. Sarah in 1729 married Levi Andrews in 1750. Prudence was born in 1732 and Anna in 1734/5, and for neither of them does the record go any further.
Five daughters and one son, and the son did not come home.
