Obadiah Warner
Obadiah Warner was born at Waterbury in Connecticut on 24 February 1702/3, the fifth child of Dr. Ephraim Warner and his wife Esther Richards. A transcription of the record adds that he was baptised at Woodbury on 23 May 1703. His father was then moving his household and his medical practice to Woodbury, where his uncle Ebenezer Warner was also a physician.
The family came back to Waterbury after April 1714, when the town voted to encourage his father to return. His father became the town's physician, a deputy to the General Court and captain of the train band. His eldest brother Benjamin became a physician too, called "Doctor Ben" to tell him from their father. His brother John became a deacon of Northbury.
On 1 February 1726/7 he married Sarah Lewis, daughter of Joseph Lewis, the Waterbury cloth weaver who became deacon of the church and the town's deputy to the General Court. Sarah was eighteen. Their first child, Jerusha, was born on 13 October 1727. Over the next twenty four years came Lydia, Obadiah, Esther, Joseph, Lois, Enos, Sarah, Eleanor, Agnis, Irena and Mary.
They lived on Cook Street. In 1752 a new highway was described as running "north from Obadiah Worner's barn to Robert Johnson's house."
Three of their children died young. Esther died in February 1746 at twelve. Enos died on 1 September 1749 at nine, in the autumn that also took Sarah's father, Deacon Joseph Lewis, and her brother Joseph. The eldest son, Obadiah, died on 25 June 1750, five days after turning nineteen.
Jerusha married Aaron Harrison on 26 October 1748. He became the deacon of the Wolcott church for forty five years, and she lived to ninety two. Obadiah's own death has not been found, and no gravestone for him is known.
