Olivine Perras
Olivine Perras was born in Quebec about 1853. She was probably the Marie Olivine Perras baptized on 15 October 1853 at Saint-Édouard in Napierville County, the daughter of Joseph Perras and Louise Boulerice. An Olivine Perras born about 1853 was living at Saint-Michel in Napierville County in 1861, and one of seventeen was in the county in 1871.
On 12 October 1875 she married Médéric Boissonneault. Her children were baptized under her maiden name, as Quebec parishes did: Marie Frasile at Saint-Michel-de-Napierville in 1876, Marie Annie Delia, born at Manchester, New Hampshire, in 1878, while the family worked south of the line, Marie Ernestine at Saint-Michel in 1881, and Alfred, Marie Hélène, William and Marie Irène at Saint-Patrice in Sherrington between 1883 and 1889. Freeman Ephraim followed in 1892.
Her children's Vermont records turn her name every way an English-speaking clerk heard it. Her son Will's 1915 marriage card wrote her as Lovina, maiden name Paris. Her daughter Helen's Social Security papers gave Olive Parris. On Will's death certificate in 1964 his son Vernon gave Olivinia Perreault, born at St. Joseph, Canada.
Her last home was at Wood's Falls, in Clinton County, New York, a few miles south of the Quebec line. She outlived her husband by twenty-one years and died there on 27 July 1944, about ninety-one years old. Her obituary gave her age as eighty-one and said she had lived all her life at Wood's Falls, though her children's baptisms place the family in Napierville County, Quebec, through the 1880s. It called her "a kind mother and thoughtful neighbor" who "enjoyed a long and useful life and was loved by everyone who knew her," and said she left eight children, three sons and five daughters. The funeral was held on 29 July at St. Ann's Catholic church at Mooers Forks, and she was buried in its cemetery.
Her heirs deeded her place to the county's Commissioner of Public Welfare: a house, barn and ten acres on the Woods Falls Road in the town of Mooers. When he put it up for sealed bids in September 1945, the notice gave her name three ways at once: Olevine Boissoneault, Bossana or Bussino.
