Will Bussino
Will Bussino was born on 1 July 1887 and baptized the next day, 2 July, as William Boissonneault, at the Catholic church of Saint-Patrice at Sherrington, in Napierville County, Quebec. His parents were Médéric Boissonneault and Olivine Perras, French-Canadian farm people of the Napierville country, which runs south to the New York line. In Vermont the name was written the way it sounded, Bussino. One of his sisters kept the old form and was buried as Annie Boissonneau LeClaire, and his son Gordon later used Boisson.
His birthplace drifts across his records. His death certificate gives Mooers, the first town across the line in Clinton County, New York, and his daughter's marriage card gives New York State. His own marriage card and the 1920 census give Canada, and the baptism at Sherrington the day after his birth bears them out.
The Bussinos came over into Vermont. In 1910 Will was living at Randolph in Orange County. By 1915 he was a laborer at Mount Holly, a hill town east of Rutland where his brother Fred farmed.
On 30 December 1915, at twenty-eight, Will married Louise Raymond of Clarendon at Mount Holly. It was his second marriage. A Catholic priest from Wallingford married them.
Their children were Gordon Francis in 1916, Vernon Robert in 1918, Hazel Mildred on 7 August 1921, Raymond Earl, called Mike, in 1927, and Verna Jeanne in 1939.
In March 1919 Will's brother Fred, a Mount Holly farmer, was wanted for burglary and arson, and Will himself was arrested as a suspected partner in the thefts.
In 1920 and 1930 the family lived at Rutland. By 1940 they had moved north to Brookfield in Orange County, and by 1950 to East Montpelier, near the state capital. Will farmed for most of his working life. His last home was on Towne Hill Road outside Montpelier.
He suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis for the last twelve years of his life and from heart disease in his last weeks. He died of a heart attack at Heaton Hospital in Montpelier on 29 November 1964, aged seventy-seven, a day after he was admitted. His son Vernon gave the details for the certificate. Will was buried on 1 December 1964 at Cutler Cemetery in East Montpelier.
