Ozias Goodwin
Ozias Goodwin was born in England about 1596. He was a brother of William Goodwin, the Hartford leader who sailed for New England in the Lion in 1632. He married Mary Woodward, a daughter of Robert Woodward of Braintree in Essex.
By 1639 he was living at Hartford. His children were William, born about 1629, Nathaniel, born about 1637, and Hannah, born about 1639. Hannah married William Pitkin, later attorney and treasurer of the colony.
In 1674 he and his son William swore an affidavit together. The paper survives in the Connecticut State Library: "Ozias Goodwin aged 78 yeares and Wm Goodwin aged aboute 45 yeares ... testifieth." An affidavit was a sworn written statement made for use in court. His age in it is the source of his birth year.
He had land on the east side of the Great River, the Connecticut. His son Nathaniel's will of 1712 left two acres of meadow there, "given to me by my Father." He died at Hartford before April 1683.
