Pauline Wuest was born in Germany in June 1850 and brought to America in 1856, when she was six. She married John Keck at Cincinnati about 1870, and on the last day of 1882 she had twins, Charles Paul and Harry William.
John died in 1917. She was the informant on his certificate and gave her address as 4561 Mitchell Avenue.
She died on 27 August 1928 at the Little Sisters of the Poor on Riddle Road, the Catholic house for the aged poor, and was buried three days later beside her husband, Section 18, Lot 4, Grave 2. The informant was a sister of the house, not one of her children, and the certificate shows it twice over. It takes ten years off her birth, exactly as she had taken ten years off John's. And it writes her father's name Juest.
Her name is Wuest. Two of her daughters gave it on their marriage licences, two of her sons carried it onto their death certificates, and it is the name on her stone. The whole of the difference is a W read as a J by somebody who had never heard the family say it.
