Born 1678

Father: Gunnar Rambo
Mother: Anneka Cock

Peter Rambo was born about 1678, a son of Gunnar Rambo and Anneka Cock and a grandson of Peter Gunnarsson Rambo, one of the first permanent settlers of New Sweden. His place in the family comes from a compiled genealogy, The Rambo Family Tree by Beverly Nelson Rambo and Ronald S. Beatty (2007). It numbers him 12 and heads his children "The children of [#12] Peter and (?) Rambo, [son of Gunnar, Peter]." His wife's name has not been found.

The Rambos had farmed on the Delaware at Shackamaxon and in West New Jersey. Peter went inland. "Peter took up land on Perkiomen Creek farther up the Schuylkill River," the genealogy says. The land lay in Providence Township, then in Philadelphia County and now in Montgomery.

In 1738 he was a warden of St. James's Church at Perkiomen. "In 1738, Jonathan Woodley and Peter Rambo appear as wardens," an 1895 history of the parish records, "and vestrymen, Samuel Lane ...". A warden was one of the two lay officers who kept the parish's property and accounts. Samuel Lane, his fellow officer, farmed across the line in New Providence, and Peter's son John married Samuel's daughter Anne.

He died in July 1753. "His will was proved in July 1753 with his son John Rambo as executor," the genealogy says. That will is in the Philadelphia registry. A deed of 1775 still bounds the Lane land "by Land of Peter Rambo," which may be his old farm or that of his grandson Peter.

Another Peter Rambo, of Gloucester County, New Jersey, also died in 1753 with a son John as executor. His will of 18 April 1753 leaves John a house at Wicaco, the old Swedish settlement in Philadelphia, and not land in Providence. He was of a different branch.
