Philip Taber
Philip Taber came from Essex, in England, to Plymouth in 1630. In 1669 he gave evidence about a drowning and stated his age as sixty-four, so he was born about 1605.
He moved often. George L. Randall's Taber genealogy of 1924 traces him at Watertown in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1634, at Yarmouth on Cape Cod in 1640, on Martha's Vineyard in 1653, at New London and at Portsmouth, Rhode Island, in 1654, at Providence in 1659, and from 1667 at Tiverton, then part of Dartmouth.
He married Lydia Masters, a daughter of John Masters of Watertown and Cambridge, in or before December 1639. Her father's will of 19 December 1639 already calls her "Lidya Tabor". Their children included John, born 8 November 1640, Lydia, who married the Providence minister Pardon Tillinghast, Esther, and three sons, Joseph, Philip and Thomas, all baptized in February 1646.
His second wife was named Jane. Her maiden name is not known. A deed of 1651 calls Cary Latham his brother-in-law. Cary had married Lydia's sister Elizabeth.
He died at Tiverton in 1672. His son Thomas settled at Dartmouth and became the father of a large family there.
