Philip Terryberry
Philip Terryberry was born about 1762, a son of Philip Terryberry and Dorothea Swackhamer of Schooley's Mountain, in Morris County, New Jersey. His grandfather Stephen Terryberry had come from Germany in 1738 and leased a farm in German Valley, at the foot of the mountain.
His father settled on Schooley's Mountain and owned a good deal of property there. A history of the valley's German families, published in 1895, says that property "was left to his son Philip 2d", which is this Philip.
He married Mary Ann Hann, a daughter of Jacob Hann. She was born on 4 October 1761 and died on 2 August 1832. Their children were Jacob, born in 1786; John, born on 17 May 1791; William, born on 8 September 1802; Elisabeth, who married Jonah Hess of Drakestown; Anna Mary, born on 10 June 1809, who married George Fritts of Spruce Run; and Esther, who married James Wilson of Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Philip outlived his wife by twenty years. He died on 8 May 1852, aged ninety.
