Pierre Simon

Pierre Simon was a propriétaire, a man who owned land, at Perrenot, the hamlet joined to Grandvelle in the Haute-Saône, in eastern France. He was born about 1794. He married Françoise Vienney, and their daughter Jeanne Françoise was born at Grandvelle-et-Perrenot in October 1819.

On 31 March 1824 he went before the mayor of Grandvelle, Jean François Parrot, to declare the birth of a son. He gave his age as thirty and said the boy had been born that morning at eleven, to himself and to Françoise Vienney his wife. He named the child Pierre, after himself, and signed the register.

He did not live to see the year out. He died at his house at Perrenot at six in the evening on 7 December 1824, aged thirty. The next morning two men reported the death at the town hall: Hubert Clade, thirty-nine, a cultivator of Perrenot and his neighbour, and Jean Dessery the elder, fifty-seven, a landholder of Grandvelle and his cousin. He left his widow with Jeanne Françoise, who was five, and the baby Pierre, eight months old.

When Jeanne Françoise married in 1837, the register called her the minor daughter of the late Pierre Simon, in his lifetime a landholder. A year later her first son was named Pierre.
