Ralph L Little
Ralph Lodric Little was born at Flint, Michigan, on 2 January 1926, the second child and eldest son of Russell Lodric Little and Bessie Mae Marshall. He carried his father's unusual middle name. The family lived on the north side of Flint, and by the 1930s the household was at 250 East Hobson Avenue, the house where his grandfather George Elmer Marshall died in 1935 and where his mother was still living when she died in 1964. His brothers and sisters were Betty Ruth (1921-1984), Carl Thomas (1927-1967), Jack Lee (1929-1993), Edna Mae (1932-2016), who married Donald Hoover and later Samuel Fisher, and Robert Clayton (1935-1975). The family belonged to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; his mother's funeral and his grandfather's were both held under its elders, and his brother Jack later served as a priest of that church at Clio.
He married Johanna Tena Tiemeyer, called Jo, in 1961. She was a farm manager's daughter from Cutlerville, south of Grand Rapids, and the two were married late by the standards of the time, he at thirty-five and she at thirty-eight. Their daughter Barbara was born at Muskegon in 1962. When his mother died in January 1964 the Flint Journal listed him first among her sons, as "Ralph L. of Muskegon", so the family had settled on the lake shore by then, while his brothers were scattered from Flint to Anchorage, Alaska, and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Ralph died in Muskegon County on 18 December 1991, a few days short of his sixty-sixth birthday. He is buried in Fruitport Cemetery at Fruitport, south of Muskegon, under a grey granite stone that carries both his name and Johanna's, with an eagle cut into one corner and a bundle of wheat in the other. Johanna outlived him by nearly ten years and was buried beside him in 2001.
