Richard Lyman
Richard Lyman was born at High Ongar in Essex and baptised there on 30 October 1580. He was a son of Henry Lyman of High Ongar and his first wife Elizabeth. His mother was buried at Navestock, the next parish, in April 1587, when he was six. His father married again, to Phillis, a daughter of Richard Stane, and died on 4 May 1605.
He married Sarah Osborne, a daughter of Roger Osborne of Halstead in Kent. The marriage date is not known. Their children were baptised in England over nearly twenty years. A son William was buried in 1615. Phillis was baptised on 12 September 1611, and later married William Hills of Hartford. A son Richard was baptised in 1613 and died young, and a second William, born in 1616, also died. The second Richard was baptised on 24 February 1617/18. Sarah followed on 8 February 1620, Anne in 1621, who died young, and John in 1623. Robert was born in September 1629.
In 1631 he brought his wife and all their children to New England. The family settled at Hartford on the Connecticut River. He died there about 1640, and Sarah died soon after him. His will and inventory were brought into court on 27 January 1642.
