Richard Trott
Richard Trott was a customary tenant of the great manor of Taunton, in Somerset. He is entered on the manor's calendars in the tithing of Staplegrove in 1510, at Otterford in 1527 and 1540, and at Poundisford in 1534.
He married Joanna. Their children were John, buried at Pitminster on 16 October 1544; a second John, of Otterford, who died about 1595 and held land there "by surrender of Richard Trotte" in 1572; Robert; William, buried in 1596; and Tomsin, who married Thomas Person in 1580.
In 1571 his house and half virgate of bondland at South Trendle passed to his son Robert by his surrender. The manor court attached a condition: Robert was not to sell or surrender it "to any alien person or persons except to one of the surname of Trotte." Robert's son Richard was admitted to the same land in 1600.
A Richard Trott was buried at Pitminster on 14 November 1570. That was probably he, and the surrender entered in 1571 fits it. The 1893 genealogy calls him probably a son of William Trott of Staplegrove, who is on the manor rolls from 1503 to 1510, and a grandson of John Trott of Staplegrove, there from 1458 to 1476.
