Born 1809, Illinois
Died 1893
Children include Nancy

Robert Huddleston Sellers was born on 25 April 1809 in Illinois, the son of Isaac Sellers and Elizabeth Huddleston, by his memorial. In 1922 his son Isaac wrote down what the family knew of his early years. Robert was "born on the bank of the Wabash River in Illinois. Indians began to raid that state when he was a small babe and his father Isaac Sellers moved to Gibson County, West Tennessee."

He came to Texas while it was still a Mexican province. When the revolution broke out he served in Company D of the First Regiment of Texas Volunteers, the company of Captain Moseley Baker. Edward Burleson commanded the regiment, one of the two infantry regiments of the Texian army under Sam Houston in the spring of 1836. Captain Baker commanded its largest company. He later served again in the Mexican War of 1846 to 1848.

His first wife was Margaret Miller. His daughter Nancy Elizabeth was born on 6 April 1837, and since his second marriage came in 1840, Margaret was very likely her mother. Nancy Elizabeth's memorial gives her birthplace as Rabbs Prairie in Fayette County, Texas, which fits a father who was in Texas in 1836; her obituary of 1904 says Tennessee.

In 1840 Robert married Nancy Stuart, who was born in 1812. Their children included Rev. Isaac Sellers, 1842; Nancy A., 1846; Robert Franklin, 1849; and Angeline K., 1852. The family kept a plantation in Colorado County and another in Fayette County. Robert also ran a hauling business between Houston and Austin, the freight route that carried goods inland from the coast before the railroads reached central Texas.

On Christmas Day 1855 his daughter Nancy Elizabeth married Theodore Freelen Howell. Nancy Stuart Sellers died in 1883. Robert lived on another ten years and died at Luling, Caldwell County, on 12 August 1893, aged 84. He is buried in the Luling City Cemetery under a stone carved with the square and compasses of the Masons, reading "Our Father, Robert Sellers, Apr. 25, 1809, Aug. 12, 1893."

A photograph of Robert and his second wife in old age survives, the two of them in an oval frame, he with a full white beard and she in a white cap. Another family photograph shows them seated in the front row with Wallace relatives behind.
