Nancy Elizabeth Sellers
Nancy Elizabeth Sellers was born on 6 April 1837. Her obituary gives her birthplace as Tennessee and says she "came to Texas when quite young." Her memorial gives Rabbs Prairie in Fayette County, Texas. She went by Elizabeth. Her memorial names her father as Robert Huddleston Sellers, who served in the army of the Texas Revolution.
On Christmas Day 1855, in Colorado County, she married Theodore Freelen Howell. The license, issued on 14 December, names her "Miss Elizabeth Sellers." He was a widower with a small son, Walter Andrew, and she raised the boy with her own. She bore seven children. Two died before her. One was her son Silas John, who died in November 1899 at the medical school at Sewanee, Tennessee, aged 24, and was brought home to be buried near Sunny Lane. The five who survived her were Isaac Green Howell of Runge, Martha Jane, wife of a Watson, of Gano, Nancy Ella, wife of Finis Richmond Keele, of Burnet, Robert Theodore Howell of Lake Victor, and Dr. Asa William Richard Howell of Burnet.
She was a member of the Church of Christ for many years, and her obituary said "her place at meeting was never vacant." In 1904 she fell ill. The illness lasted nearly five months, and every one of her children came to her during it. She died at Burnet on Christmas Day 1904, forty-nine years to the day after her wedding. Elder J. S. Hall conducted the service, and she was buried "beside her dear boy." Her stone, a tall shaft marked HOWELL, stands in the Cauble Cemetery near Lake Victor.
