Robert Lincoln

Robert Lincoln was the eldest son and heir of Robert Lincoln of Hingham, in Norfolk, who died in 1543, and of his wife Joan. His father's will of 18 April 1540 left "To my son Robert Lincoln, my harness." Robert witnessed that will himself, entered as "Robert Lincoln my son." His father had already settled his lands on him. Robert's grandson Edward later described them as "the inheritance of Robert Lincoln, father of the said Richard."

He married Margaret. Lea and Hutchinson call her Margaret Alberye. They had at least four children: Richard, the eldest, John, Katherine and Agnes. Margaret was carrying a fifth when Robert made his will.

He made it on 14 January 1555/6, as Robert Lincoln of "Hengham," as the clerk spelled the town. It was proved fifteen days later, on 29 January, so he died that same month, still a young man. He asked to be buried in Hingham churchyard.

To his wife Margaret he left "my dwelling-house, land, meadows, and pastures till my son Richard is 21." If Richard died under age without heirs, the property was to go to his sisters. To his daughter Katherine he left a tenement in Thetford. To his daughter Agnes he left "a tenement in Hengham sometime Frances Portmanne's, late John Jessoppe's." His son John was to have five pounds at twenty one. His executors were his wife and Robert Alberye of Hingham.

Margaret married again, to Roger Wright of Hingham. When Roger made his will in 1571 he called Robert's son "Richard Lyncolne, my wife's son," and Robert's daughter "my wife's daughter Katherine Brooke." Richard came of age and in 1574 married Elizabeth Remching of Carbrooke.
