Robert Lincoln
Robert Lincoln lived at Hingham, in Norfolk, in the reign of Henry VIII. He made his will on 18 April 1540 as "Robert Lincolne of Hingham." He asked to be buried in Hingham churchyard. He was dead by 5 September 1543, when his widow proved the will in the court of the Archdeaconry of Norfolk.
The will names his family. To his daughters Margaret, Rose the elder, Rose the younger and Christian he left forty shillings each at eighteen. To his wife Johan he left kine, his cows. "To my son Robert Lincoln, my harness." His daughters Ann and Elizabeth had sheets. Elizabeth was the wife of Hugh Bawdwen, or Baldwin, of Hingham.
He remembered his brother's family too. He gave his nephew Thomas a coat. Thomas's son Robert, his godson, was to have a blanket and a bullock at eighteen, and Thomas's son William a bullock. Robert Bawdwen, son of Hugh, had a bullock as well. Sixteen acres of corn in the close called Brockelle were to be shared "between them" by "my nephew Robert Lincoln, singleman, Elizabeth Bawdwin, wife of said Hugh, and my daughter Ann Lincoln." A singleman was an unmarried man.
His executors were his wife Johan and John Cowper junior, a tanner. The witnesses were Thomas Pynchyn, John Barnewell, a tailor, his son Robert, John Jessoppe, his nephew Robert, Robert Wright and John Pye.
Lea and Hutchinson begin their Lincoln pedigree with him. They call him "the great-grandsire eight times removed of Abraham Lincoln." His son Robert died in 1556, leaving the land to his grandson Richard.
